There are artists who entertain, and then there are artists who move culture forward. Ryan Cassata continues to prove he is firmly in the latter camp with his powerful new release, “Blood Is On Your Hands.”
Arriving in collaboration with hip-hop artist Jesediah the track lands with both emotional weight and urgent purpose. Marking Transgender Day of Visibility in a way that feels deeply personal and unflinchingly honest. While one day of recognition can never fully encompass the ongoing fight for equality. Ryan’s artistry ensures these conversations remain alive all year round.
“Blood is On Your Hands,” stands as a deeply affecting response to the Club Q nightclub shooting in Colorado Springs. Written from the imagined perspective of Daniel Aston, a 28-year-old trans man and drag king who lost his life in the attack. The track becomes both tribute and testimony. Ryan carefully weaves in real moments of courage, including the actions of Drea Norman, capturing both tragedy and heroism in one breath:
“I watched my best friends cry, as an angel stomped her heels, stripped the killer of his might.”
Through this lens, the track blends activism with artistry, exploring themes of homophobia, transphobia, and gun violence while celebrating drag culture and queer resilience.
Ryan’s documenting style storytelling comes into its own here, elevating the emotional resonance of the track.
“The chorus came first: ‘Blood is on your hands, we just came here to dance. Blood is on your hands, so why can’t we dance?’” he explains.
The sentiment cuts straight to the core. Promotes that queer spaces are vital safe havens — places to dance, love, and exist without fear.
