THE MOTIVE BEHIND POLITICAL “CONVERSION” REVEALS EVERYTHING
Yesterday, I posted a short and quick video-reel rant which was diced with some humor asking how we should react to former MAGA activists and ex-Trumpers who finally see the light of day. I need to follow-up on that tirade today, because I left something out which is very important.
That omission on my part is — MOTIVES.
The MOTIVES behind political “conversation” tells us all we need to know. We must ask those who allegedly decide to leave the MAGA cult — what made them finally change their minds?
Is it because the price of gas blew up as the direct cause of an insane and reckless war launched in the Middle East by Trump? Is it because of Trump’s idiotic tariffs on most imports which made everything cost more? Is it because many small businesses are now hurting due to labor shortages caused by cruel and counterproductive immigration excesses? Is it because investments are down and many 401Ks are suffering? Is it because they lost their jobs? Is it because rents are going up? Is it because they lost their health insurance? In other words, did they change their minds solely because of SELFISH reasons?
Not exactly compelling evidence of a change of heart, I’d say. This isn’t grounds a new chapter in “Profiles in Courage,” is it?
Someone who I know and respect messaged me last night saying I was wrong about this and that we should accept former Trumper converts no matter what their motives are. I certainly agree re-evaluation is a positive first-step in recovery. And, I hope some converts will vote for candidates who run against MAGA Trump loyalists.
What questions and answers reveal on motives is — personal character. Those who convert for selfish motives apparently were perfectly fine with MANY YEARS of depravity…..all the felonies, the multiple bankruptcies, the rape verdict, the overt pedophilia, the cover ups, the appalling grifting, the insider-trading, the pardoning of insurrectionists, the draft-dodging, the sludge of inappropriate “jokes”, the multitude of insults, the threats to invade allies, the disruption of stability, the unbridled racism, the anti-trans rhetoric, the stupidity, the anti-intellectualism, the constant embarrassments, the tens of thousands of lies, a bungled new war, broken promises, and sick self-obsessions that border on mental dysfunction. All of that stuff — apparently was and is NO PROBLEM! But gas goes up a buck at the pump, and suddenly the selfish MAGA twits lose their shit and grow a conscious.
Well, excuse my cynicism, okay?
If something as solipsistic as financial self-interest is what it finally takes for them to stop guzzling toxic orange Kool-Aid, I’m fine with that. But also don’t expect me to welcome them with open arms, nor trust their sincerity. They might just as easily fall for the next big con. I can’t trust someone who has repeatedly been a cheerleader of so much fear and hate and have been on the WRONG side of every fucking issue which has hurt millions of people. I do not forget and forgive so easily.
