It’s hard to find any humor in wars in general but pointless wars are particularly depressing. I avoid as much as I can news about the wars around the world. But it’s impossible to entirely avoid it in these days of social media. Thankfully there are stupid people who unintentionally do their bit to lighten the mood.
Today also happens to be April Fool’s day. A couple of famous April fool’s pranks. Courtesy: Grok.
The Jovian-Plutonian Gravitational Effect (BBC Radio, 1976)
Astronomer Patrick Moore told listeners on BBC Radio 2 that at exactly 9:47 a.m., a rare alignment of Jupiter and Pluto would temporarily reduce Earth’s gravity. He suggested jumping in the air at that moment to experience a floating sensation. Callers later flooded the lines claiming they had felt lighter or even levitated.
Taco Liberty Bell (Taco Bell, 1996)
In a bold corporate prank, Taco Bell took out full-page ads in major U.S. newspapers announcing it had purchased the Liberty Bell and was renaming it the “Taco Liberty Bell.” The company claimed it was moving the historic bell to its headquarters in California to “help promote the national debt.” The hoax sparked public outrage (and some genuine confusion) until Taco Bell revealed the jokeāand noted it boosted sales by about $1 million that day.
A song which begins with the word April. I love the line —
“September I will remember
A love once young
Has now grown old”
Happy April Fool’s day.
